Default Nintendo Shakes an Angry Fist at Low Priced Mobile Games

Most people tend to balk at the idea of paying big bucks for mobile games. Even a title as popular as Angry Birds would have a hard time convincing iPhone owners to shell out $50 for what amounts to a casual game, however fun it is, on a miniature screen (compared to the desktop). Nevertheless, a quality low-priced game designed for smartphones has the potential to be a win-win situation for the customer and developer, so what's Nintendo's beef with all these 99-cent titles? They're just too risky.

"I actually think one of the biggest risks today in our gaming industry are these inexpensive games that are, candidly, disposable from a consumer standpoint," Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime said.

The comment was made during an episode of Game Trailer TV on Spike TV, which you can view over at Kotaku. Fils-Aime, who was there to promote the upcoming Nintendo 3DS handheld console, further explained that these so-called disposable games create a "mentality for the consumer that a piece of gaming content should only be $2." So what about the above-mentioned Angry Birds title? Put simply, it's under-priced, Fil-Aime says.
