Default Michael Phelps makes waves with 'Push the Limit'

Hope your living room is waterproof.

Gold medal hoarder Michael Phelps has partnered with 505 Games to create "Michael Phelps: Push the Limit," a swimming game for Microsoft Kinect. Yes, you read that correctly. A motion-controlled swimming game. Witness the first trailer:

"I'm really excited to help bring a one-of-a-kind swimming video game to the market that is reflective of my competitive nature and passion for swimming," Phelps said in a press release, adding that it "isn't your typical video game."

That's for sure. Since roughly, I dunno, half of swimming involves kicking your legs, it seems you'd have to be flailing around on the floor to get this thing to work correctly, right?

Lucky for my hamstrings, wrong. In an interview with USA Today, it's been revealed that you won't use your legs at all, instead focusing on proper stroke techniques using your arms. The game will also require you to master the art of diving into the pool by mimicking the squat/leap motion used by pro swimmers. A virtual Phelps will be on hand to teach you the finer points.

Push the Limit is due out exclusively for Microsoft Kinect in June 2011.
