Default Battlefield 3 Info-Drop: Tehran, Paris, and New York Featured, Spotting Returns, Frostbite 2 Engine Trailer

Quote:
You're starved for Battlefield 3 information. We get that. DICE cryptically whispered the game's name and then dove back into the shadows, so it's only natural that you'd want answers. Unfortunately, after a weekend on the streets attempting to hunt down the slippery developer, we were informed that it's based in Sweden, rendering our entire search (and unwarranted beating of a few tight-lipped citizens) futile. So then we spent a few minutes on the Internet and found this stuff.

First up, UK retailer GAME revealed that Tehran, Paris, and New York will all be prominently featured in the game. Meanwhile, lead gameplay designer Alan Kertz took to Twitter to douse a few burning questions. Among other things, he said that spotting's making the jump from Bad Company 2, although it's far from finalized. “Spotted enemies could have a bomb dropped on them by an orbital space cannon for all I’ve decided right now,” he tweeted.

The much-loved ability to go prone is, of course, slithering down the comeback trail as well, but Kertz and co. have clipped its wings, so no more mid-air “dolphin-diving.” He also explained that bullet physics are taking a few cues from Bad Company 2, but “it's a much deeper system.”

So, when do we get to see it all in action? Er, not yet. Check back in a few weeks. In the meantime, though, this video of Battlefield 3's engine ought to bring some light into your life. And then remove it. And then bring it back again. Yes, it's a lighting demo with negative 64 players and just as many bullets, but it's still pretty darn impressive. Click through the link to salivate at the idea of massive battles that span days and nights. Come on, DICE, with that engine, it's just begging to happen.
