Default Ubuntu 11.04 Officially Released

Quote:

Ladies and gentlemen, dear Ubuntu users, after three alphas and two beta releases, we are pleased to announce that Ubuntu 11.04 is here, today (April 28th), available on mirrors worldwide (see the download links at the end of the article).

It is our greatest pleasure to introduce you guys to the highlights of Ubuntu 11.04, dubbed Natty Narwhal. It all began on August 17th, 2010, when Mark Shuttleworth announced the Natty Narwhal operating system, the next major release of the popular Ubuntu OS.

Ubuntu 11.04 is also the 14th release of the Ubuntu OS and it will be supported for 18 months on both desktops and servers.

I would be using it, but my net book capped out on me I tried it out on my desktop when it hit Beta 1 and really liked it. This Unity interface has come a long way

I was upgrading from 10.10 to 11 when I was posting this. Looks awesome! Be done in a few minutes.

I am upgrading as I post this. Sadly with my internet acting up as it is, the download of updated packages jumps from 5 minutes to completion to 130 minutes. So I have no idea when I will be done. I am glad that I was able to just insert the CD and perform the upgrade that way. I tried within Ubuntu and it just wasnt going to happen with how bad my net has been since the power came back on.

Mine went along fine. The download rate did throttle a bit, but it was done, fully, in 2.5 hours. That was at <100Kb/s

Yeah the problem is that on my connection right now it goes from 15kbps up to about 30kbps and then back down again. So literally i have been downloading these updates for well over 2 hours now and am still no closer to being done than when I started. Ugh...

I went all around between 30Kbps to 100Kbps. I'm sure everybody is downloading this now, clogging up their servers. Who knows, though...

I do like the Workspace Switcher, though.

Well I said forget it and just formatted and reinstalled fresh. Heck I only had installed Chromium anyways so why bother. I must say that Unity isnt all that bad. It is like everything else. Just takes time to get used to it.

I'm probably going to hold off until tomorrow to try it out. I'm a little split as to whether I should do a clean install or just upgrade. I'm really digging it's adoption of AppMenu and LibreOffice.

Main issue i see right away. No support for dual monitors. I can get my 2nd monitor to show the wallpaper. But I cant drag anything onto it at all. Basically makes that whole screen useless. I msut be missing something, but at 1:30 AM I wouldnt be surprised.
