Default Microsoft Sets IE9 Launch for March 14

Quote:
As Microsoft looks to kill off Internet Explorer 6, the Redmond software giant made official the launch date for IE9: March 14th, 2011. The final code will be available for download from Microsoft's servers starting at 9 AM PST on Monday, making good on Microsoft's promise to deliver its next generation browser in the first quarter.

It's been just over a year since Microsoft released the IE9 Platform Preview 1, a primitive version of what's soon to be a gold release. More recently, anxious IE fans have been able to play around with a Release Candidate build, which includes a new JavaScript engine codenamed Chakra.

There are several changes in IE9 compared to previous versions, including hardware-accelerated text, video, and graphics. There's a new tab page, improved integration with Windows 7, a streamlined design, pinned sites, and a host of other new features, which you can read about here.

Have you had a chance to play around with IE9? If so, what's your impression?

It's been out for about 2 hours now. Pretty awesome improvement over IE8

Finally, an IE that isn't the bane of web designers. It only took 9 versions!

IE9 does not play well with GPU Folding apparently. I haven't explored its settings to see if there was something to fix that, but it was giving major mouse lag/hangs until I got Folding shut off.
