Default Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 blocked in Europe

Some days I would like to get my hands around the pencil-necks who come up with this BS. Yes, I am looking at you, King Jobs.

Quote:
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will have to be removed from sale across Europe following a judgment in a German court.

The tablet, which launched in Britain last week, must now be removed from shelves and Samsung must stop marketing it. According to some retailers, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 became the fastest-selling tablet since the iPad 2 when it launched in Britain.

The Regional Court of Dusseldorf has granted Apple a preliminary injunction against the sale and marketing of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 across all of Europe except the Netherlands. It is possible to apply for a pan-European injunction in any country which, if upheld, covers all of the EU. The judge backed Apple’s claim that Samsung’s tablet had infringed on its intellectual property and copied elements of the iPad 2.

While Samsung can appeal against the judgment, the injunction will still stand in the meantime. Any appeal would be heard in around four weeks' time and would be heard by the same judge.

Would love to see Samsung pull out from selling components to Apple... that would screw them over.

On a more related note: I hate the patent system that countries (especially the US) have... Apple is using all the extremely vague patents they have in order to bully everybody out so they have as little competition as possible... rather than actually competing in the marketplace, they're choosing to compete in the courts, which only restricts innovation. God forbid they actually have to innovate passed making a jumbo-sized iPod touch *cough*iPad*cough*.

This.

Most patents that I have seen have been so vague that any of them could be construed to cover all kinds of stuff. And this is just another example of said vagueness being used as a club... and the courts playing right into it.

And to top it off, companies like HTC and Google don't have as many patents as Apple does, so they're restricted. HTC is in the process of buying in on some patents right now, because the President of HTC's wife owns a micro-processor company I believe, so that will help a little bit. Google is also prepared to back Apple up, stating that they would "make sure HTC wins" lol. Just wish all this petty fighting would go to the markets to improve software/hardware, rather than hinder innovation...
