Default Enermax Cooks Up Sub-$100 Mid Tower Case

Quote:
At one buck shy of a Benjamin, Enermax's new Hoplite mid-tower computer case falls into budget territory, a fact belied by its feature-set. With a focus on "optimal cooling performance," the Hoplite features a front mounted 120mm blue/red combo LED fan with speed and light control, a rear 120mm fan, side fan mounts for two more 120mm fans, and two fan mounts on top that support both 140mm and 120mm fans. Even so, cooling takes a backseat to the rest of the feature-set.

Arguably stealing the show is a hot-swap docking station for 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SSDs and HDDs on top of the case, a wonderful addition for speedy backup jobs. You'll also find a pair of 3.5-inch hot-swap drive bays at the bottom of the front panel.

There's a fan door on the front panel that makes changing the fan or cleaning the filter a cinch. Other notable features include cable management cutouts with rubber grommets, extruding panels to hide/cram those cables, dust filter for the bottom-mounted PSU area, and a front panel I/O consisting of two USB 2.0 ports, a single eSATA, HD/AC'97 audio, and a pair of USB 3.0 ports.

Looks like someone took more than a few styling cues from Cooler Master...

Agreed, looks like an HAF 912 with a blue LED fan instead of red.

I don't mind design plagiarism as much with cases however, since to make them unique and different is difficult to do without giant plastic bezels, or removing good design features. Cases are the one thing where they're all so close, because straying from the design would impede performance. Design singularity and all that.

Double agree. Is that HAF 912 any less, though? I know that HAF 922 was sub-100

You said the fan was blue on the Enermax? Looks red, on your comparison.

But yes, they do look similar.

First off, the hdd install option it has is pretty nifty. not really anything i'm sure a lot of people would take advantage of, but nifty.
Secondly, that flash animation (cruddy as it may have been) showed the features of the case in a manner that I didn't have to go poking around to decide I didn't like it.

The drive assembly is very similar to the HAF 922. It goes into a cage, and you connect the cords and push it in. Just in front instead of in the case. Nothing new.

If you don't like the flash video, see other review videos. I swear those are better.
