Default AMD's FX-8150 Bulldozer chip reviewed

Techspot sums it up nicely IMO
Quote:
We won't deny it, we really were hoping for a lot more from Bulldozer and AMD's eight-core processors. It's disappointing to find these newly launched processors do little to improve AMDs situation. The FX processors come short of competing hand to hand with the now 9-months old Sandy Bridge processors, and in certain instances surpass their own Phenom II range.

Actually, what's funny is the Phenom 2 beat it out in some areas. Totally called it and now AMD fanboys are weeping.

Wow, just... wow. I actually feel bad for the fanboys, they deserved something better after waiting so long.

AMD, I am disappoint.

I think BD big thing is the 8 cores, and we all know 8 cores aint for gaming.

I'd like to see F@H as my 950s at 3.6 due to heat with 4 real 4 fake cores tearing it up.

It doesn't fare to well in anything other than the 264 that uses the new instruction set. The fact that the Phenom 2 X6 is keeping it's paces and even beating it means something bad. So I'd say it has nothing to do with it strictly having 8 cores, rather than it is just a crap architecture. The cherry on top is how the fanboys thought it would clock so high cause of the world record, yet on air it can't clock for ****.

Can anyone say MegaHeatMonster? With all the power it uses I can't even see it as a viable server chip.

I didn't expect it to break any records TBH. I figured it would be a little better coming out of the gate, though.

No nails in the coffin, but definitely far less than AMD needs to try to get back to where it once was.

Makes me wonder what it's going to take to get AMD to push Intel once again, honestly they are probably still pushing Intel to keep R&D up, because Intel knows if they slack like they did during the P3-P4/Athlon era, then they will be screwed. AMD can still beat intel in the low-mid range market for normal consumers, but not the higher end markets, just imagine if AMD wasn't around. I am an AMD fanboy, I HATE Intel, but, yea...
