Need Help!

ok i have this dreamcast system.
i hate the "sega" games but the dreamcast is an emulator's dream it can emulate tons of shit.
but my problem is i got it from my uncle, and it doesnt work.
when you boot it, the system loads to the bios and asks for you to enter the time and date. but you cant do anything. the controller buttons dont do a thing. its almost as if it froze, but it didnt because if you wait long enouh the screen saver comes on and runs fine. i tested the controller port voltage and it tested out fine. does anyone know what the problem might be? do i have to flash the bios?
any feedback would be apreciated.

i dont think so i mean ive tested about 3 different ones in the system and still nothing.

I've had a few DC systems and the only thing wrong with one is the controller socket had a short in it, but you tested yours and said it's fine. Other than that, I have no idea what the problem could be.
