does anyone know minecraft? (server help)

hi if anybody knows minecraft and also plays and maybe also has a server i need help making one.

the problem is with the ip address (internal and external)
i was able to join my server but other people outside my local address can't join it
please help

You must open the ports in your router:

25565 to 25565 both TCP and UDP.

Then YOU connect with local IP, usually 192.168.x.x

Friends Connect with public IP which you can find by googleing "whats my ip".

it's mainly the external ip

i do go on whatsmyip.com but people are still not able to join

i also did use my internal ip but it won't bind to port ;d

If you connect to the internet, then you will have a router.

omg. if you have a router then you need to portforward (I DON'T HAVE A ROUTER) my computer is connected straight through the modem

That modem is a router. You might be thinking of 'switch' when we say router.

no i thought the router as the middle man in the internet map that gives you more wire plugs or broadcasts wireless

my modem is westell. i think is a old company so idk if i will be able to find the portfoward setting :L
