Because there was already hype for Destiny. It's the same thing.

No. Closed beta with pre-order codes then a couple days of open beta.

I think it was kind of smart of them not to try and ram it like they did vanilla due to how poorly the game shaped up to be until TTK. It will keep most people excited about what they liked, without looking like they're trying to pull one over again.

Based on the beta and what I've read, Destiny 2 is going to make any Destiny fan happy. Should appeal to new players as well. If you skipping it because of year one Destiny issues, you'll be missing out.
