I just recieved an email from rockstar games (yes the people responsible for the GTA series)... they have put GTA 2 (re-optimised for modern pcs) on their website as a free download (fully legal - its from them). I know its an old game, but it was always a laugh to play with its top down view and everything. I already have the game (ibought it when it came out) but I am tempted by their claims of optimisation!

anyway i thought I would let you all know incase you wanted something free to play this christmas!!! :)

anyway this is what their email said:

As the adage goes, there is no greater joy
than the gift of giving.

So then itÂ’s not entirely selfless that weÂ’re once again
continuing the tradition of giving away an entire game
from the Rockstar library to you.

Simply head on over to
www.rockstargames.com/classics ,
fill out the form fields, follow the instructions,
and you can download a fully optimized PC version
of GTA2 absolutely free.

Yes, GTA2. The 2nd proper installment in the
Grand Theft Auto lineage, originally released in 1999.
The one that introduced the concept of multiple rival
gangs vying for your attention and criminal work-for-hire.

The Yakuza, Scientists, Looneys, Rednecks, Zaibatsu,
Russian mob and Hare Krishnas. Gouranga!

This late 20th century top-down classic is now available
to you all in the form of a 350MB downloadable .zip,
courtesy of Rockstar Games.

EDIT: - they also have the original GTA and a game called "wild metal" up for grabs as well

There is also GTA London:1969, I played it on my cousin's 100mhz pc. The first GTA to come out and it looks bad, lol.

i have played all GTA games, its great to see how the game has evolved, but i would even dream about going back to the original. not a bad game, but ive already spent too much time on it lol. but great series, and its worth a look! ave fun!!
