I bought a '95 Ford Escort for $1 about a month ago (20K Miles) and I would really like to replace the stock speakers. I bought a new radio for the thing so that I could play CD's and have an AUX port and that helped the sound a little bit but I'd like to get some fairly inexpensive speakers to replace the absolutely terrible stock speakers, even if the new ones are $20 each. The problem is, I don't know much about cars and installing speakers so I was wondering if you guys could help me choose a set of four. I am in College so I don't have that much money so try keep it on the cheap side too. Thanks for the help.

I hate you. :)

I wish I could find a decent body for mine ('93 5-speed 2-door hatch).

speakers are easy just 2 cables positive and negative and decent pair mid priced dependes on where you get em are sony xplod they sound good low wattage requirment and good performance important here is not to confuse positive and negative cause theyll still sound correct but the cone will push the opposite way

I'm not positive, but I believe the front doors are 6.5"-6.75" speakers, and the side panels are 6x8" speakers.

FRONT SPEAKERS

MB QUART FSB216 6.5" 2-WAY CAR AUDIO COMPONENT SPEAKERS | eBay (If you can do a component setup, I highly recommend it)

OR

ROCKFORD FOSGATE 6-1/2" 3-WAY COAXIALS 1 PR. R1653 NEW! | eBay (These sound "ok", my buddy has them in his Blazer, and can keep up SOMEWHAT to his PowerBass 4XL 15" (look it up...)) They get loud, and definitely better than stock.

REAR SPEAKERS

NEW HIFONICS ZXi683 6x8" 3-Way 425W Car Audio Speakers | eBay (I have these for rear fill in my car, and the difference was night and day compared to the stock Infinity 6x9's.)

Thanks for the help guys, the insight has really helped.

And Trotter, do you have any idea what fuse goes to the cigarette lighter? Mine stopped working and I'm guessing that it's probably a fuse but I can't find any designated for the cigarette lighter. It's not a huge deal if I can't figure out the issue but it would be nice to be able to charge my phone while driving.

This is the interior fuse box :

So I went to a car stereo shop today and talked to the people there about upgrading my speakers. They asked what kind of stereo I had and said it may be better to just upgrade my stereo then they showed me the difference between a stereo with better sound quality than mine and a Pioneer one. So I when I got home I ordered a Pioneer DEH-3300UB for like $71 on ebay... We'll see if this helps my sound at all.

When you go to upgrade your sound, really, in the end you want to upgrade everything, and run new wire instead of using the stock wiring. Trust me, those shops "rig" the display models (you know, that huge wall of buttons with all the speakers/radios) using different pre-amps and amps to get really good quality sound out of some units that otherwise wouldn't sound very good.
