Unless it's been made freely available to the public by it's owner(s), if you don't buy or rent the song/movie then you're pirating it. Which is illegal. Everything you need to know is in the link below.

Take note though, there ARE online radio websites such as Pandora that ARE LEGAL and FREE at the same time, but, it's just like normal radio, you have commercials, and rarely get to pick the next track. But the songs are usually tailored to your taste.

yeah, i used napster for a bit but i like pandora better since it is free and legal at the same time.
