Ubuntu Alpha Breaking Hardware?

Engadget is reporting that the latest Ubuntu alpha is killing Intel network cards by corrupting the NVRAM used to store MAC addresses. According to the article, the ISO hasn't been pulled but warning has been added.

Well, it looks like the good times that are the Ubuntu alpha testing process hit a bit of a snag recently, as one of the latest kernels apparently had the nasty side effect of irreparably damaging some users' hardware.

I read a similar article yesterday about OpenSuse and Mandriva distributions doing the exact same thing. It appears to be a problem with the kernel driver for the particular card. Some said you could fix it by re-flashing the system BIOS, while others said that failed. I have an Intel card (don't think it was one of the affected cards) but I'm holding off until the final release, I've used alpha distros in the past and found them to usually have features missing or errors.

It's a kernal issue an **** kernel drivers you should be useing madwifi drivers.

Temp slicked till the beta is relapsed.
