Hello! I´m using windows XP and I have a problem when watching DVD´s or avi files:
sound works perfectly fine in the computer, when coming from an mp3, music CD, divx movies ... but when I try to watch a DVD or an avi file, the sound doesn´t come out, and no error message appears. Could you help me with this?? Thanks!

Go to this site and download 'AVICodec' (in Other Useful Tools near bottom of page).

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools.htm

Then point AVICodec at the files you are having problems playing sound, this will tell you the Vid and Audio properties required to play the file. It could be you need to install the AC3 codec or something on your system.

Try it and report back, also make sure nothing is muted in Sound & Audio Devs/Volume/Advanced. Also go to Options/Properties (in same) and make sure the Aux box is ticked.

Hello roho,
your solution did work! I just had to install the AC3. Thanks a lot!!!

DVD sound - AVIcodec

This was helpful, indeed, but would be even kinder for future enquirers, if you alter it to show the easy suggestin first (tweaking Audio settings)...!!
