Windows Media overpowers QuickTime

When I click on a .avi file, even when I make the default QuickTime Player, it opens in Windows Media Player. It is tolarable when the videos are on my hard drive but when I click an online link it goes to Window$ Media. Any fixes?

You need to do this in the right order.

Firstly get rid of the association between WMP and the AVI file ext. Do this in WMP Tools/Options/FileTypes tab and uncheck.

Then make sure that the file is asscociated with Quicktime (not sure of where to find this is QT as I don't use it) But it can be done via Tools/FolderOptions/FileTypes in Explorer. Scroll down til u find the AVI ext, click on the change button and then find QT in the prog list
