Will Sound Card Eliminate Noise/Static?

Im currently running on onboard sound, but experiencing large amounts of static and popping. I am unsure of the cause of all of this noise, however i was wondering if buying a new sound card (one of the Creative X-Fi ones) would eliminate any of this noise?

mute cd audio first (thank crysalis fr this). if that don't work then get a sound card

Yes... try muting CD audio first. Also, try your speakers on another device of some sort to see if its not interference from the speaker wiring itself. If all fails, then a soundcard will probably get rid of it. Onboard is never a good option.
