I used a headset for voice recording, and it broke (the mic, anyway). I bought a new one, and the sound quality from my recordings are starting to deteriorate now. At least I've got the receipt this time, but this is really annoying! What's going on? How does recording my voice keep breaking my speakers?

My soundcard is Santa Cruz turtle beach, version 1.024158.01
The first mic was a Logitech premium stereo headset ($25), the current one is a Sony DR-220 ($30).

Oh yeah, and the sampling rate of all the recordings were 11025, if that means anything to you

you must have an annoying voice lol ^_^

just sounds like bad luck. how close is the mic to your mouth?

11025 is a pretty low sampling rate. By comparison cds and dvds are around 44000 or 48000. At 11025 it should be quite understandable, but might not sound very good.

Are your speakers still playing mp3's and dvd's etc in normal quality? "Breaking your speakers" and breaking a mic are very different situations.

I'd experiment with the mic at different distances from your mouth as well...
