i blend of both is usually best. with any amplified anything, unless its super high quality, you dont want to put the volume above, say, 85%. Which is easier to control? you have 2 main options if you want a wide range of volume control:
1.) if the soundcard is easiest, turn your speakers down all the way... put SC to 85-90% volume, then turn up the speakers until you start to hear distortion on a song with heavy bass then back off a little. now you're set to control the volume with your SC.
2.) if you have a remote for your speakers, for example, turn your SC down to zero and the speakers to 80-85%. then using a song with heavy bass, turn up the SC until you begin to hear distortion then back off just a little. now you're set to control volume with your speakers.
unless the amp with your speakers is top of the line...i would go with my first suggestion...as soundcards tend to produce less distortion at high levels than cheap amps do.
