ok, my dad wants to digitise all his vinyls. what is the best method:

1. buy one of those USB decks specifically designed for the purpose.
2. bung a regular deck into the line in of my a2zs and record that way?

for number 2, do i need some form of pre-amping? whenever i try recodring from anything, it is always really quiet, even with the volumes up.

thanks people.

With vinyl, you'll most definitely need a pre-amp. I do my analog->digital with your #2 solution.

i don't know how to do it myself, but stores will do it for a fee. i know music trader does.

hmmm he would rather not pay money.

can i use a speaker amp, and turn it down? the only problem is it uses the large plugs, a bit like midi plugs. can i get a cable that goes from two of there to a 3.5mm jack?

just get the cds, mp3s of vinyl will sound like trash. thats like my friend who has all these laser discs taht he wants to put onto dvds, why not just watch the laserdiscs?

wow....

I won't even respond.

errr that would cost quite alot.... my dad has a pretty large collection.

(ie, 75 x £10 = £750.... ouch)

and they can be made to sound reasonable if it is done properly.
i think the generaly conclusion is that he needs to buy a pre-amp, yes?
