Video forums go ballistic over "Why edit video at all"

Everybody could use a hug now and then.

Especially those, who are upset at me not editing.

They are even more worried than I, about me loosing resolution?

Hollywood spends time and $$$ building rails, to make camera movements smooth.
I've learned to move with the camera and take out the footsteps.
The jiggle is reduced and the excitement increases.

Don't even try, going through heavy bush with a camera steady.
You will miss more shots, by adding too much equipment.

When I walk up to a big squirrel den and check out some of the entry holes
people are glued to the examination of that mound.
This kind of movement, wasn't done easily before,
because the equipment was huge and unwieldly.
I say take the camcorder and "run with it"

I've been re-reading the posts, where I still have viewing privileges.
Some of the banter was hilarious.
Anybody interested in carrying on the cause in those "BANNED" forums?

If you capture really good video it's hard to edit any of it.

who cares? we don't.

it look llike you are going around intentionally starting sh_it to convince somebody to be like you

we either edit video or we don't. you won't change our opinion

Who is we. Got a mouse in your pocket.

It's not that you don't care.

You hate the idea of not editing.

An editors worst nightmare.

"We" is anyone who shoots video or anyone on this forum.

I have a mouse in my pocket?

It's not that "we" hate the idea of not editing. If anything, we hate the idea of being put through the boredom of watching unedited video. Truthfully though, I don't think there is any hate here.

I just watched a few of your video clips, pretty unimpressive. The only entertaining thing was in the one where the (retarded? stuffed?) hens wouldn't move even though he kept shooting at them. My roomate happened to be looking over my shoulder when I watched a few of your clips. He didn't know anything about your stance on not editing or anything. What did he say? "That's boring." Half the time I didn't even know what was going on. Adding subtitles would have solved that problem, made me more interested, and, assuming you have some common sense and wouldn't put them right over the subject of the video, wouldn't have compromised the film content at all.

Like some other guy on a different forum said, you have to keep your goals in mind. If your goal is raw, unedited video, well then I guess you shouldn't edit. Do whatever you need to accomplish your own personal goal. END OF STORY.

I think that, it is you, that, is having a worst nightmare, because, you can't, edit, well. Why do you, edit your, sentences with so many, commas? Not trying to be a, ****, but they would be well formed sentences, without so many, commas.

About Hollywood spending money on rails to make camera movement smoother...

They're carrying out a very deliberate shot - if they miss something, they'll just shoot it over again. The shots have to be exactly the way the screenwriter and director feel they should be. If the screenplay calls for a smooth pan, they will make the camera pan smoothly. Simple as that - it's not a question of techinique and 'excitement'. A bouncy hand-held shot works great in some applications, not all. Sometimes, the smoothest of shots builds much more excitement than a hand-held shot could ever.

Before you critique movies, watch them.

What I've been talking about is, not editing for the non professional.
TV and movie types need to fit in ads and have major time constraints.

Not so for the rest of us.

All (99.9%) of the TV & movies to date, have been highly edited productions.

Most of us are far less worried about a little camera shake
or poor exposure, Its a 50/50 thing when shooting wildlife.

Those productions are not reflective of what we can do today.
With tiny portable cameras, inexpensive media and an army of cameramen.
Edited video will get lost in the flood of unedited non professional video.
