This might be a dumb question, since I really don't know very much at all about this subject.

I know that there are upconverting DVD players for televisions. Is there software available to make a DVD drive in a computer upconvert the video to a higher resolution, so it'll display better on the higher resolution screen? Or does it already do this?

Thanks for your help.

you should be able to set the resolution you want for the video when you encode it, that is assuming that you are auctually creating the video yourself.

Yes - Play the DVD in fullscreen mode.

That's all it does, it may have some post processing stuff, but that can all be done through software.

"Upconvert" just means that it plays the DVD scaled up to 1080i or whatever you set it to. So it's exactly the same thing as playing a DVD in fullscreen mode, with whatever software you choose.

if you set the resolution higher than 1024 x 768 you won't see the whole screen on your tv. you can use a dvd decoder card to see a better picture and to set it to 1080i
