upconverting

Does anyone know of a way to upconvert digital movies/ dvds to 720p or 1080p and then make them into a .wmv file so i can play it back vie xbox 360? Is this even possible?

upconvert? like to higher res than the actual video? That's generally impossible. You can change file types with all sorts of programs. I'm using Any Video Converter at the moment.
You'll need Windows Media Center (owned and installed) on you PC to upload to the 360.

hmm I see,
yea, i was going to buy an external HDD to hook up to the xbox via usb and play movies from it like a little media center.

They should have made file sharing easier for 360 to PC, but my friends and I generally just take my laptop and hooked it up to the tv...works great.

What connector do you use and how do you get sound to work?

HDMI to TV for video
Optical/Toslink to sound system for sound.
