speaker placement

i have 2 speakers and a subwoofer for my computer speakers, what is the most effective way of placing them for the best sound.

One pointing to one ear, and the other pointing to the other ear. The sub should go on the floor.

ok thanks, well, on my computer desk i have a board on the bottom about 3 inches from the floor, thats where the sub will go,

if the sub is front fireing try pointing it twoards the wall, can make the bass sound better, i have a 2.1 yamaha speaker system with a smaller sub when i aimed it backwards it made a big diff. also, if you can i would put the sub on the floor insted of on the desk, the desk might resonate and dirty up the bass.
