Ok im not after the regular sort of software that will record input sounds from peripherals like mic's or midi devices, etc.

Im after an output recorder.

Basically (and i have seen this software around before but for the life of me i cant track it down now!) the software will record the sounds just before/as they are played from your speakers.

is anyone able to produce any information about this type of software please?

Cheers!

Thats records already playing sounds from your speakers?

i wasnt aware that it had that capability.

I think that Audacity only comes as a trial/demo when you get because from memory, its not a free program?

correct me if im wrong?

Hello,

You don't need specialist software which is capable of recording sound outputted from a PC.

It's a feature already available in the Windows OS called Mixing or what Creative call What U Hear. You should also find a MIDI source to record from also. It isn't software.

It also relies on whether the soundcard supports the feature. Nearly all sound card do.

Go into Windows Volume Control, Options > Properties then select Recording in the Adjust volume for... section. Check all the boxes below in the Show the following volume controls (you won't need all of them but it will make the next step easier...

...click ok. Volume Control should switch to recording audio levels. Now look for something like Mixing, Stereo Mix or What U Hear or something along those lines. Check the Select box underneath the appropriate one and adjust the recording level accordingly.

Play some music in an audio player on your PC, like Windows Media Player, then open up a sound recorder (like Audacity, or just Windows Sound Recorder) and record. If you're not getting anything, try changing the recording device in the sound recording program instead to Mix, Stereo Mix or something similar...

Take Audacity for example, in the top right corner is a drop down menu of recording sources. You should be able to find it there. The list of recordingg sources should be the same as the recording sources in the Windows Volume Control Recording Properties, as should other audio recording software.
