I have a pc that I built a few years ago with a ECS k7s5a mobo with sis onboard sound. It originally had win98, and the sound worked fine. It was just upgraded to win2k, and now the sound is scratchy. The "scratchyness", if you will, gets worse when visualizations are opened up in real player (or the old real jukebox version). Again, nothing like this happened with win98. I did download the latest sound driver from the ESC site, but that had no affect.

Any ideas?

Go to Wal-Mart and buy a Sound Blaster Live! for $20. you'll get better sound quality, its compatible with win2k, and it offloads the audio work from the CPU.

Ok, I finally got a sound card and I still have the exact same problem. Any other ideas?

Did that too, didn't make a difference. I also just upgraded the memory from 256MB to 512MB which also had no affect at all. :(
