Sound Card

I am thinking of getting my first sound card. I have only ever used onboard sound in all my computers before. If I were to get a decent sound card however, would I notice an increase in sound quality over the onboard stuff? I was thinking of maybe a Creative Audigy 2 ZS. Is this a good card?

yes that is a good card...it will be much better than integrated audio.... plus the firewire port is nice you'll like it

What exactly is the firewire port for may I ask?

It can be used for an array of devices, but is mainly used for hooking up a digital camcorder to your computer.

Yeah I know what firewire is in general. So the Audigy doubles as a firewire card as well as a sound card you're saying?

OK so it looks like the Audigy is a good card.

Is there anything else that is good or better around the same price that I should take a look at?

honestly, no. The Creative cards are the best of the best. Don't hesitate for a second to get that card, I have an Audigy 2 ZS Gamer and these sound cards are amazing.
