its not very notticeable with regular speakers but when you put on your nice pair of headphones you will nottice slight but audible buzzing, popping and all kinds of static noises.

a 10 second solution to get rid of almost all the noise is to go to your volume control and mute all unused inputs and outputs.
in other words: unless you have surround enabled on your pc all you need is "master volume" and "wave" controls.

everything else including: microphone, all other inputs and outputs adn mixers should be muted untill you need to use them.

because most of the windows does not mute them by default.

you can try and max out the volume on all extra controls with your headphones on to see how noisy your system is and then mute them all to see the difference.
