Recommended video recording software

Hey,

I am looking for a good screenshot/movie recording software. I'm looking to record clips and take screenshots from windows media player, VLC, etc. What do you guys recommend for doing so.

Screenshots can be done natively in VLC - Shift+S I believe.

As for recording...why do you want to screen record clips from a video playing through a media player? If you have the source file...why not just use video editing software to extract out the clip(s) that you need?

I want to record clips from movies to create memes, what video editing software what I use? I'm not savvy with video editing, bad subject for me lol
