No matter how many files I open, I can't get any files to
show up on my Recent Files List. I found nothing set in
GPedit.msc, however, I did notice there is no key for it
in the regestery. I dont know exactly where to add the
key or the exact title for it. I am running XP Pro. with
Media Player 8.00.00.4487

Copy and paste the below (in-between the *******) into a notepad file and rename the notepad file .reg. Next double-click the file and it will prompt for you to merge the registry value into the registry.

If you don't know how to rename files, do as follows:

My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Un-Check - Hide Extensions for Known File Types

**********

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences]
"AddToMRU"=hex:01

**********

I tried to do as you said. The system reported that it was added sucessfully, but it did not show up in the Regestery.
I added it manually! At the following KEY [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\
Preferences]
I added (AddToMRU) with a hex value of 01
Now it shows up in the Regestery, but stil no change to my Recent File List even after reboot.

You The Man!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your help. I didn't associate Explorer with Media Player! I very well may have changed it myself in GPedit. I will have to go look. I was only looking for a Media Player setting in GPedit. I didn't like things changing out of my control.

Thank you,

Mike!!!

Well I don't know about being the man, but I'm glad you got it sorted out!
