Possible setup up?

Hey all, quick question. I used to have my PC hooked up to my monitor via VGA and my xbox hooked up to my monitor via DVI. I built a new pc with no VGA ports so I'm forced to connect it to my monitor via that (plus from what I understand DVI is better anyway). This is fine and dandy now but when I go away to school next semester I'd like to do it again so can someone verify for me if the setup in the picture below would work?

Are there any cheap solutions for this? A quick newegg/ microcenter search for DVI switch turns up items for 100's of dollars, I'm just looking for a quick solution to hooking both up to my monitor.

VGA and RCA cables with adapters to DVI and buy a VGA switch.

Talk about Jerry-rigging...
