Thanks to __Camouflage__ for the help earlier today with the foloowing web sites.
Here is a quick little write up of what I found.
Now normally I don't complain or bring up the bad and good about products that I purchase, but today I did a little personal study on Blank Dvd's.
Today I went to Staples and purchased 3 different brands of DVD+R's.
1. Staples House Brand (http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/s...uctId=125924&cmArea=SC3:CG104:DP2096:CL142439)
2. Memorex (http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/s...ductId=89855&cmArea=SC3:CG104:DP2096:CL142439)
3. TDK (http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/s...Id=-1&productId=151712&cmArea=SEARCH#desclink)
Now the reason for doing this is because I wanted to see which ones worked the best and were the most reliable and I needed to do some backing up . So I went home and started to back up data and burn a few movies as well.
Well the Memorex DVD's were fine I had no issues what so ever. The TDK ones had 3 bad disks that my NEC burner would not read, but other than that I didn't have any other issues. Now the Staples branded DVD's were a WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY.
Out of the 50 DVD's only 4 of them were read by my NEC burner. So just to be safe I tried them on 2 other burners and still the same thing. I have used Memorex DVD's Forever and have not had any issues, but Staples and TDK I have never used before, until today. I don't think I will have any issues with the TDK ones, but I will find out down the road.
Also I downloaded A Dvd Id program http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ which tells you the manufacturer codes, and Media ID's. The Media ID is what the manufacturer does not list, because it is really the only way to rate a DVD via the creator. After you ID the DVD you can look up the ratings here http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm.
Now not surprisingly the Staples DVD's were in the trash section, the TDK was in 1st rate Class and the Memorex were in the 2nd rate Class.
The following are the Media ID's I have for each DVD.
Staples: CMC MAG-M01-001
TDK: TTG02
Memorex: MBI03RG40
This has nothing to do with Reputation or anything like that. My intent here is to just show what I found out and allow everyone to make their own choices. I have always wondered what made the difference between all different brands of DVD's
Here is a total EYE OPENER TO ME!!! Here are a few pictures of the DVDS, you tell me what looks different to you.
Memorex
TDK
Staples
If anyone has any other experiences with these or other DVD brands please feel free to post them
