My cousin copied his 100 GB music collection for me and I would like to enjoy it on good quality speakers. This means that I need to hook up my computer to my stereo. I come up with two options:

1) run the speaker out of my sound card into the back of the receiver.
this would involve a splitter, a 40 foot 1/8” to 1/8” cable, and a y-splitter. What would be the quality of my signal? Would it be stereo or mono? How much signal attenuation/degradation would I experience? Would there be any noise?

2) buy a media hub
This seams like a good option but they are pricey.

Which one should I go with? The goal is good sound quality, and if they will perform the same, then IÂ’ll go with the cables. Also, if you have any more options feel free to add them.

a mobo or sound card with optical out or coaxial out is the best option as they can travels miles before the sound degrades .

or buy a small 1/8 to rca female connector, then buy a pair of 25-30ft on high quality phoenix gold or monster cable rca connectors. this will add less resistance in the path
