Hello Everyone, I hope someone can help me out 
I have win98 SE, an AMD k6-2 350, an Epox M/board a creative soundblaster live S/card and an S3 4Mb video card
My trouble is with recording, although all of the players I have play all sound files just fine, as soon as I try to record them with
creative recorder/wave editor or cakewalk or cool edit, I get a slight crackling noise throughout the song which becomes even more prominent during playback of said recording.
I am trying to record from tape as well as record midi files to wav
and mp3s
I have previously done many "from tape" recordings which turned out fine, but shortly after recoring a few midi files (successfully)
things changed, I started getting this crackling/popping sound as well as a slight speed variation and sometimes even skipping/jumping.
I have checked and re-set all settings, updated drivers, dismantled system and cleaned all connections
even fitted a new hard drive all to no avail.
And it's not my PC speakers 'cause when I burn it to CD the problem is still there on my stereo system,
Has anyone got any ideas ?
