Just recently, my computer wont play AVI, MPEGs, and WMV files. They worked before but now they dont.

I thought i have accidentally deleted something, so i reinstalled the K-Lite Codec Pack.

I still dont get video playback.

What i am getting is a blank black screen, with the audio still working.

I then decide to reinstall WMP10. The problem is still not fixed.

I have converted some video files to DVD (VOB, BUP, IFO) and they wont playback on PowerDVD 5. it also has a blank black screen with the audio still playing.

Any help will be appreciated

The same problem exists in Media Player Classic, also.

PowerDVD 6 costs money, something i dont have right now.

there are a couple things to try...

one big fix is to reinstall windows...

other options follow:

start the computer in safe mode..., uninstall k-lite, and make sure any files or folders associated with it are deleted as well (such as C:\Program Files\k-lite, etc...

if you upgraded from wmp9 to 10 when you got the compuer.. roll it back..

do both, then (out of safe mode) reinstall wmp10 and k-lite

if that doesn't work... lol, I'm not sure...

perhaps some program you recently installed is screwing with it..

same problem.

i havent installed anything recently. so i dont know.

EDIT: the reinstallation of WMP has fixed WMV playback.

AVI, MPEG, and VOB, BUP, IFO to go

EDIT AGAIN!

i did a system restore. that did not help.

so i decided to get an actual DVD movie and play it through my dvd-rom drive. Power DVD 5 CANNOT play it. I try playing it on Media player classic and windows media player. they CANNOT play it.

as suggested by someone else, K-Lite Codec Pack is installed. Which did not help at all too.

ive been trying to fix this problem all day long and nothing is working.

try uninstalling the k-lite pack. it conflict with other codecs sometime. it doesn't like media center edition

i uninstalled the K-Lite Codec Pack, and it still does not work.

as mentioned earlier, DVD movies wont play.

As in DVD movies, i acutally mean DVD movies you buy at a store.

For example my copy of The Back to the Future, will not play at all. PowerDVD wont play, WMP wont play, and it even installed InterActual player, and it still doesnt play.

here is a screenshot of the error i get in PowerDVD:

So these are the video playback problems i have:
AVI
MPEG
DVD

That did not fix the problem.

The DLL file you gave me, i did not have in that folder before though. And i never installed Kazaa on this computer.

i have a feeling this is more than just a codec problem.

this morning when i turned on my computer, it asked me to install Flash Player 8. Something i already have. I dont know if its a coincidence or what.

im gonna run a virus scan just incase.
