could you possibly list me a Hifi system with links to an amp, cables, speakers, etc. everything i would need?

I have a budget of <£270

so a pair of B&W 601's will sound worse than moniters?

B&W 601 S3, S2, and S1 are very good speakers - when on stands and matched with appropiate amps and cd players.

Similarly good speakers are Monitor audio BR2's, Aegis Evo Ones, Wharfedale 9.1, Q acoustics do some good ones, as do Polk. Tannoy, and mordaunt short are also great.

Q ACOUSTICS 1010 SPEAKERS (PAIR) (BEECH) - available from Superfi UK Visit http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/product_id/2842 for details These are good speakers for the price.

As are these, WHARFEDALE DIAMOND 9.0 SPEAKERS (PAIR) - available from Superfi UK Visit http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/product_id/2196 for details

I wouldn't particularly reccomend sony as CD players, but due to your budget it will be fine. SONY CDPXE270 CD PLAYER - available from Superfi UK Visit http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/product_id/476 for details

You can't afford pre or power amp setups - you'll have to stick to Integregated Amplifiers, but they are very good so don't worry about that.

NAD C315BEE AMPLIFIER - available from Superfi UK Visit http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/product_id/3494 for details

The Watt per channel on this is under rated by about 5W. But the volume output depending on your speakers is still loud enough to fill most rooms, depending on the amount of power the speakers need and there sensitivety, you would need to get 89dB sensitivity or more sensitive.

This is a good setup that they've came up with here; NAD C515BEE CD & C315BEE AMP & TANNOY MERCURY F1 CUSTOM SPEAKERS SEPARATES SYSTEM SIZZLER - available from Superfi UK Visit http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/product_id/3856 for details

as is this; ONKYO CR515DAB MICRO SYSTEM & Q ACOUSTICS 1010 (BEECH) SPEAKERS AWARD WINNING SYSTEM SIZZLER - available from Superfi UK Visit http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/product_id/3367 for details

and this; SONY CDPXE270, TAFE370 AMP & TANNOY F1 CUSTOM SPEAKERS SYSTEM SIZZLER - available from Superfi UK Visit http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/product_id/3342 for details

one last thing, if you get B&W speakers especially the 601, you must bi-wire to widen the soundstage and improve bass extension, impact, and soften the treble as it can be quite harsh at higher volumes without doing so.

I can do that. But thats a small budget. (posted above)
It can be done however.

B&W speakers pair well with rotel, because there tested with rotel equipment.
Don't get cambridge audio, good sound but poor reliability. The left channel goes dead after a while, and the outputs on the back are of inferior quality.

NAD, Rotel, Marantz are all good, but marantz tend to have a more bassy sound. Marantz CD players are very good though. NAD amplifiers can be quite bright, you need to pair them carefully and make sure you don't get bright speakers. Aswell as the right interconnects, Chord company and QED make good cables.

Rotel seriously underate there watt per channel. If they rate 40wpc, you can expect 60 or 65 at 8ohms.

He_LL no. don't listen to oriox. he'll have you thinking that I'm stuck on monitors.
I'm stuck on good sound.

what I was saying was the better your equipment, the better your mp3 ripped at 192 kbps will sound.

B&W make some of the best speakers in the world. there is a handful of speakers in the world (or maybe there's none), that sound better than B&W. if you get some get a decent amp to drive them. don't use a sony 7.1 receiver

Oriox read this and learn something. A review of the 801. maybe the best sounding speakers in the world. you and right winger read about it's USA comment.

Stereophile: B&W Matrix 801 Series 2 loudspeaker

Good. Ya wah, i LOVE b&w speakers, i'm getting some when money allows. They do make very, very, very good speakers. They are usually very big though on there more expensive speakers. (thats good, helps with bass extension) wouldn't say there the best sounding speakers though.

As Eric said, don't get asony 7.1 receiver, there bs for sound quality. As are most AV amps.

i'm thinking of getting HiFi seperates now, i'm against getting moniters because most of my music is <192kbs :\

so apparently HiFi speakers would be better for my needs

Cambridge CD players don't support MP3's, they do support copied cd's. You will have to convert to WMA and rip them to your cd player.
