Hey, my friend is having a problem with using a mic on his computer... his mic has worked before, and for some reason one day, it just stopped.... he is running an onboard sound with a abit nf7s motherboard... he tried the microphone on another computer, and it worked perfect... and he has made sure that the microphone is not muted, and all the obvious things.. anybody have any idea what to do now? im as frustrated with his problem as much as he is.. any info would be great... Thanks in advance

I've had this problem once or twice with an old Dell I used to use. I was able to solve it by:
1. Turn off the PC
2. Reconnect the Microphone into the Mic port on the Sound card
3. Turn the PC on
4. Go to Control Panel->Multimedia then look at the Recording Devices. Make sure that the microphone (or equivavlent or whatever you know it has to be called) is selected as the primary device (in my case, Windows would swap it to something else, like the playback device or something stupid). Then tell it to use only preferred devices.
