Media Player 9 and Windows 98

Hi,

My friend has windows 98 and he just updated his media player to version 9. The problem is that when it plays anything it plays it at double speed... you can see the time going at double speed as well.

Is anyone aware of any problems which can cause this. He was running media player 9 for a while before he upgraded his hdd (it hasnt been working properly since the upgrade) He has tried reinstalling media player a few times but the problem persists.
btw the hdd is an 80Gb segate.
