Hello
I'm running an onboard soundcard with windows 2000.
If you need specifications please post.

After updating from windows 98SE to windows 2000, it seems my entire audio controller/drivers got erased or disabled. No sound AT ALL works. I had ESS Allegro, which came with the computer. In device manager it says nothing about having an ESS audio controller anymore, just a yellow exclamation point next to "multimedia controller". I was wondering what I would do to either fix this, or obtain an entirely new controller if that's possible.
THANK YOU in advance for any help.

try to find the drivers for the onboard sc on the company's website or see if your resource cd has drivers for it for windows 2000. then install the drivers

I finally figured out the problem and I'm posting the solution in case people with similar problems arrive at this board.

If you have a compaq presario that came with windows 98SE and you upgrade to windows 2000, the onboard soundcard's (ESS Allegro)
driver completely stops working.
Being that both compaq and ESS's tech support/website/driver database are all hopeless, it's very difficult to find a driver that works for Win 2K.

THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKS (I've tried 10 or 12) IS FOUND HERE:

As soon as you install it, sound starts working instantly.
