Getting my cable box and router to play together

Hi

I have a pretty standard Comcast cable box with my TV and two consoles in the living room. In the next room I have a modem and router connected to it for WiFi. I tried disconnecting the router from the modem and connecting it via Ethernet cable to the cable box, but had no luck with WiFi. My goal is to have the router in the same room as the TV and consoles.
Is there a way to connect the router to the cable box?

Many thanks,
Andy

it does not work because your connecting your router to your cable box and your cable box is not a modem.

Your router has to be connected to the modem.
Unless you have a wireless modem/router combo from Comcast and another wireless router, then your might be able to use your router as a wireless bridge and connect the router to the cable box in that type of set up
You can also buy a wireless bridge/ access point if you do not have an extra wireless router and use that to connect to the cable box via ethernet cable
