FM Transmitter not working.

So I bought this cheapo FM transmitter off eBay and I haven't got a clue on how to use it:

I turn the transmitter to an open frequency, I tune my radio to that frequency, I play a song on my iPhone 3G... and my radio is quiet. I only hear the music out of my iPhone's speakers, not the cars.

What did I do wrong?

Thats pretty much it. Do you need to plug the unit into your output jack(headphone)?

No I'm pretty sure I don't. I don't have anything to plug it into. Gosh this is confusing...

Your Ipod doesn't have a earphone jack?

Yes it does have an earphone jack but plugging earphones in to it wouldn't help.

You need to plug the FM transmitter into the bottom port of the iPod. Then tune it to the right frequency on the transmitter, do the same on the radio (make sure the transmitter is on), and then turn the volume up on the iPod.

I did plug it into the bottom of the phone, the transmitter lights up, but the audio still comes out of the iPhone.

This may sound silly, but did you follow the directions?

Yes I did. I guess it might be broken or something. I'll try opening it later.
