DVD ripping

Not sure where to put this, but is it possible for me to rip a dvd movie when I only have a DVD-ROM/CD-RW (not DVD burner)?

Also, is it possible to do using WMP or Camtasia Studio? If not, are there any free programs out there?

Yes you can. As long as you have a DVD-ROM drive. You can use AutoGK to convert it to .avi, or DVD Decrypter or Smartripper to rip it to DVD files.

IMO, this is all the free software you will need. Especially ripit4me bcus that littel program will rip all Sony movies. FYI, just recently sony is fighting and won to shut down ripit4me...so get it while you can

dvd rom can rip up to 16x (single layer dvd) whereas a burner can only rip at 2-3x speed. you use a dvd rom to rip and a burner to burn

I recently had an Asus burner...darn thing only ripped at 6x. With a new samsung dvdr that I just bought...it does 16X

Well of course some will only rip at a low speed, but that's also a crappy burner. Pretty much any $30 DVD burner on newegg should be able to do 16x

Asus burners do suck. Have had 2 samsungs and they have done me well.
