DVD to DivX Help

I found a guide for compressing DVD format into DivX (http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd2divx_anamorphic.cfm) but I have been having some problems compressing the AVI file. One time it had all green video and perfect audio, and another time half the screen was balck and the other was some shade of purple with no audio. The version of DivX is older in the guide, and I am pretty sure this is the only step I could have made a mistake on. How do you compress the AVI file into DivX 5.01?

Hmm, the finished product didn't work. THe bottom half was purple and the top had the picture twice, side by side, in a shade of green. Did I do something wrong? It didn't seem like there was much to screw up with that program.

Nevermind, It's just screwed up in Windows Media Player. It works fine in DivX Player.
