awalker, you said that you used DVD +RW which is not normally used for movie burning. Remember the RWs are rewritables and normally used for data that will be written over. With that said DVD -R tend to be compatible with most DVD players. Don't forget that a good brand media makes a difference also.

that use to be true 3 years (when +r first came out) ago. not now +r are more compatable now.
 
It sounds like his JVC DVD player is an older player. It is the players that had issues with the media, not the media having issues with the players. Most modern players don't have issues with either + or -. Either way, I wouldn't use RW disc for recording movies.
