Dell Inspiron Webcam - not recording audio

I recently re-formatted my laptop and installed all drivers for my webcam which came from Dell. I am able to use my webcam, but only visual, no audio. I tried updating the drivers, but windows vista says it's already installed. Before re-formatted, I had no issues with either.

I have no idea why i'm unable to record sound. Any ideas?

Maybe there is a sound driver or software you need to install.

Have you setup your microphone?

When I try to setup my mic vista tells me I am having audio hardware issues and need to correct this. When I enter the 'sound' icon, my speakers are working properly, but under recording it states 'Line In- High Definition Audio Device - Not plugged in yet'. I have never plugged a mic in to record, it's only been through the webcam.

As mentioned before, all drivers were installed from all Dell discs.

Well you need to go to the Dell Site and find some updates or contact their support people to find out how to get the built in Mic working.

After you reinstalled the OS, did you install the drivers in the following order?

1. Desktop System Software (DSS) or Notebook System Software (NSS)
2. Chipset
3. Audio Drivers
4. Remaining Dell Driver

If the DSS and Chipset software is not installed before the other drivers, it may lead to issues down the line.
