Connectin Amp to Soundcard

I have the sound blaster audigy 2 sound card, my first question is I've connected my stereo amp to my computer soundcard, there reason for this is that i want to record my music from records to my hard drive.I assumed that creative would have a program for this,but when i try to install the creative applications it says it cannot find my hardware??? can anyone tell me of a program that will allow me to save and edit audio to my hd from my amp or mixer ? thanks alot.

Everything here cept instead of a mixer you need some sorta pre-amp
