Hey. I was wondering if someone could straighten me out on something.

I understand that capture cards 'capture' TV signals (etc.) but what are the 'advantages', 'abilities' for video editing that you gain with a capture card as opposed to a regular video card?

as far as I know... capture cards can capture (like record stuff onto the computer)

while regular video cards can only output signals, (like display something onto the screen) no recording outside sources

Capture cards are built specifically for recording/capturing images.

Graphics cards are built for rendering images.

An example: You want to make a montage of your best moments of playing Halo 3. Halo 3 is strictly for the xbox360. Therefore you must capture the images to get them onto your computer so that you can edit them. Once you've captured, you're video card takes over the load of editing etc.

Hope this helps.
