my Abit mobo has on board audio, which is crappy at best, and doesn't work at worst. the rear jack doesn't work in stereo, and i hate having to have my speaker jack connected to the front jack.

anyway, i was thinking of upgrading to a decent (but not expensive) PCI sound card to gain a little quality but mostly just to gain another jack that will work in the back!

will this automatically override my onboard sound? how does that work?

No...you have to go into your BIOS and disable the onboard sound. You should then also uninstall any drivers in Windows.

yeah you can have a Seperate sound card

but no need to unistall drivers as windows automatically get rid of them
