On-board sound, AmpliTube?

Hey,

Just downloaded AmpliTube, and it works great, other than the half-second latency.

Is this because I'm using crappy AC '97 on-board sound? Would a good sound card help this? How much should I be spending? Note that I might start recording some material soon...

Well, for starters, what kind of stuff would I need for a decent recording PC? I've already mastered Fruity Loops for drums and things, and I've got Cool Edit Pro 2 for recording... Upgrading my RAM and Processor soon too, but getting that sound card first. Anything I'm forgetting?

I'll be running my guitar directly into the PC mainly, using VST effects for modelling...
